Hard drives are an essential part of our PC, as they are responsible for storing the information and installed software. The important thing is to analyze the characteristics you should look before buying a hard drive to make a quality purchase and not regret it in the future.
Criteria to consider when looking for a good Hard Drive
Some will ask, what should I look for to choose a good hard drive? Well, the characteristics that most influence the quality and performance when choosing a good hard drive are as follows.
Capacity
One of the main characteristics that we must take into account when acquiring a hard disk is its storage capacity, each person may need a different capacity, but it is advisable to buy a disk of greater capacity to the interests that we have, so as not to have problems in a future with the storage of our information.
Even if you think it's enough, it's never enough. A magnetic hard disk of 1TB (1000 GB) is already a large hard disk, although there are larger ones.
As for SSDs, you will have to settle for capacities of less than 500GB at the moment or pay quite high prices for SSDs above this capacity.
Type
The type of disc that we choose is a very important factor according to the use that we are going to give it, usually there are 3 different types of HDD magnetic disks, solid state SSD and SSHD hybrids.
HDDs are conventional disks and use an electromechanical system with which they store information magnetically on plates.
SSD disks are disks that use electronic flash / DRAM memories, that does not depend on mechanical parts but memory cells deteriorate further, reaching a time when they stop working and data cannot be recovered.
Finally, hybrids are actually magnetic hard drives to which they have added flash memory (such as SSD) and technologies that load data that is frequently used to speed up speed.
If you need a fast and reliable hard drive at the same time, the best solution is to opt for a hybrid. On the other hand, if what you do is use video games or programs that need a lot of performance, regardless of reliability, buy an SSD.
Size
Depending on what you are going to allocate the hard drive, it will have to have a certain size. For example, if it is a hard drive for a Notebook, it should be 2.5 â€and if it is for a 3.5†desktop (although those of 2.5 â€would also work with an adapter for the ports).
Interface
It is important to choose the appropriate interface, not only because of connection compatibility issues, but because the speed of data transfer interface between the hard disk and the computer depends on it.
It is recommended that if it is an internal hard drive, the SATA III interface is chosen, while for external ones it would be better to select a USB 3.0.
