Apple is Doing it Again

Apple is Doing it Again

Over the last years, we have seen many groups promoting sustainable practices, and it is great to see how people take all those environmental issues seriously, but what about big names in the industry? The role of those big tech companies is more significant because of their high production rates. Since pollution problems are increasing, many companies have been placing their efforts on reducing the environmental impact caused by manufacturing processes.

Have you ever wondered how many iPhones are manufactured every year? Apple industry sold around 250 million iPhones per year. It means we have the overproduction problem, plus all their packages, old phones, wires, plastics, energy, etc. We had earlier talked about the apple effect, which encourages users to buy the latest iOS devices. This effect is one more proof of how much do following trends affect our consumption habits.

As everybody expected, Apple has several green plans for the upcoming years. Their idea of being carbon neutral has been working, but the latest goal is to manufacture zero climate impact devices. It means the reduction of energy use, recovery of valuable materials, and elimination of e-waste. In contrast, many Apple devices are disposed of or dismantled since the company had not updated its repair policy to allow independent repairs. Most definitely, giving consumers the choice of repair would cut down consumerism.

I can't even decide if they are wrong or not, but it is still great to see tech giants contributing to environmental preservation. I wish to see more companies working under the same goals over the upcoming years.
