They deal with the effective management, control and protection of software assets. These include those produced by the company itself and those authorized by third parties to ensure that it is duly paid for all the software used within the organization and that the license agreements are complied with.

It is the general set of business practices that links financial, contractual and inventory functions to support life cycle management and strategic decision making concerning the technological environment.
