The team of Rolls-Royce has announced that they completed the testing of the technology under which they will manufacturing their electrically powered planes. We have seen electric cars, but planes? It seems out of this world, but now Rolls-Royce will not be only about cars. Now they are building the faster-electric plane that the world has never seen.
Accelerating the Electrification of Flight is the name of this initiative developed by Rolls-Royce, working together with Bremont, YASA, and Electroflight to develop and implement new technologies intending to adhere into UK social and health guidelines.
Recently they completed the testing of every component of the plane on a full-scale replica of the plane. “ionBird” was the name given to the test airframe when the zero-emission propelling the aircraft.
We always associate Rolls-Royce's name with a luxurious car, and it looks like they are still working under the same goal. This plane strives to be a beast in the sky. Their most positive specs include a 500hp electric powertrain, a propeller up to speed 2,400rpm, and more than 6,000 cells in the battery and a full thermal.
Rolls-Royce also cares about contributing to environmental preservation by aiming to reach a net-zero carbon in 25 years. The first flight of this plane is scheduled for later this year and it aims to beat all the current electric flights in the next years.
