Using tech is more of a need than a want these days. Fortunately, there are many free internet tools that we use day-to-day, but what if our government implements a regulation where tech companies have to pay media outlets for news content?
Australia is attempting to implement a law regulation in where big companies will be paying if they want to publish content, but it is all about the giant tech Google because last year the country found out that this company was taking a large share of online advertising revenue even when the published content came from several media organizations. Since the start of the present year, when the pandemic appeared, Australian advertising revenue continues falling every day more and more when they had to lay off journalists and either shut down or stop printing news. If we go back in time, this is not the first time that Australia and Google are in trouble. The country has already previously asked companies to pay for news content if they want it to be published. Last year, as a response to the proposed regulation, the tech giant Google was forced to pay for “new news experience” due to launch later this year. Google had been partnered with different publishers in the same Australia, Brazil, and Germany.
It is evident that both Australia and Google remain in a big fight. Hopefully this issue can be resolved and won’t end up in Google removing their services from Australia.
